From Instagram DMs to engaged: A Miami proposal

From Instagram DMs to engaged: A Miami proposal

Dani and Shannen started dating on Jan. 24, 2020, after meeting on Instagram. One year later, on Jan. 22, 2021, they were engaged! We love how Dani got her friend, a photographer, in on the plan so the proposal was captured forever in pictures. Read on for more about this couple’s beach engagement in Miami, Florida.

Shannen and I met on Instagram. We are both fitness instructors. Shan living in Philly and myself living in Miami. The story as to who followed who remains a mystery. Our story starts with a simple DM. Shannen slid right into my DMs commenting on my story about a new pair of sunglasses. We started liking each others posts and messaging back and forth. The DMs lead to texts, the texts lead to FaceTime, and before you knew it I was on a flight to Philly to meet this incredible lady.

Equally Wed: The Ultimate Guide to Planning Your LGBTQ+ Wedding

Shannen was down in Miami celebrating our anniversary. We frequently take photos together when we are together so I suggested to Shannen that we do a photoshoot with my friend. We settled on a hotel right on the beach that has beautiful views of the ocean. My friend was in on the plan and asked Shannen to step into the frame for a test shot. She directed Shannen to face the ocean so her back would be turned towards me. That was my cue to slide into place and down on one knee. She asked Shannen to turn around and there I was down on one knee. Shannen was shocked we both cried and laughed. After what felt like many minutes Shannen yelled “duh.” It has always been obvious to us that we were soulmates.

We love the support we have for one another. Being in a long distance relationship requires communication, understanding, and support.

Being in the same city! We can’t wait to come home to one another each day, lay some roots down, and start building a family.

Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan are engaged!

Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan are engaged!

Congratulations are in order for celebrity LGBTQ+ couple Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan. Bennett, who’s most famous for his jock role as Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls (2004), was proposed to by his boyfriend, Jaymes Vaughan, the host of Celebrity Page on Reelz, during the Thanksgiving weekend.

“He wrote me a song!” Bennett told People.com. “I was told we were going to be taking family Christmas card photos […] but then no one would look me in the eye and I was like what is going on? I later found it out it was because they didn’t want to spoil what was about to happen.”

The actor who currently stars in the groundbreaking Hallmark movie The Christmas House (the network’s first film with an LGBTQ+ lead couple) continued, “My sister shouted for me to come outside ‘real quick’ and my FOMO kicked in so I ran outside. Then I looked over and saw Jaymes holding a sign that said, ‘we never did find our song, so I wrote it for you,’ and that’s when I knew was getting proposed to.”

Vaughan worked with Kay Jewelers for the creation of the rings, saying, “I told [Kay Jewelers] I had an idea to create something not only for our special moment, but something other LGBTQ+ couples might be inspired by for their rings too. The idea of the ring in general is really special because at its core it’s symbolic. It’s symbolic of the union between two people and its symbolic of what the relationship is to those two people.”

One edge of the rings are surrounded with diamonds. The two grooms-to-be plan on having the diamonds facing out throughout their engagement and then once they’re married, they’ll “flip the rings so the diamonds face us.”

“My reasoning for that is like I told Jonathan: ‘The diamonds face us then because my world is exponentially more beautiful now that you are in it forever,’” Vaughan told people.

Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe Are Engaged, Love Will Never Be a Lie Again!

Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe Are Engaged, Love Will Never

Friends! Lesbians! Queers! Good Straddlers of this land! Lend me your ears! The time has finally come to declare, once and for all, that love is not a lie! And lo, it shall never be a lie again! For Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe are ENGAYGED TO BE MARRIED!

I’m sure more information will be available soon, but for now:

Bird and Rapinoe first announced their relationship in 2017. It was kind of just known, but finally someone asked Bird about it and she said, “I’m gay. Megan’s my girlfriend.” And that was that! In the nearly four years since then, they’ve become arguably the most famous lesbian couple on the planet, aided, weirdly, by Donald Trump, who took aim at Rapinoe during the 2019 World Cup, to which Bird responded with a blistering and loving essay and Rapinoe responded by… winning the World Cup. Then, this year, it was Bird’s turn to win a WNBA championship — the Seattle Storm and Bird’s fourth title — with Rapinoe by her side.

DANG I AM JUST SO GODDAMN HAPPY FOR THEM! These days are dark and this news is BRIGHT AS THE SUN THAT’S BACKLIGHTING MEGAN RAPINOE AS SHE SLIPS A RING ONTO SUE BIRD’S HAND! The only thing that could make me happier than this is confirmation that Rapinoe, like Ashlyn Harris, will wear sparkly soccer socks and a shorts tux at her wedding.
