Mean Girls star Daniel Franzese has said he was fired from a gig at a Catholic university because he is gay.

The actor and comedian, who played Damian in the 2004 cult classic, claimed he was dropped by Walsh University in Ohio after the Vatican banned blessings for same-sex couples.

In a video shared on YouTube, Franzese said he had signed a contract with the university to host its Mr Walsh pageant on 26 March.

However, he said his contract was cancelled because of “the personal beliefs of the higher administration”.

“Today I was fired from Walsh University in Ohio for being gay,” Franzese said in the video.

Daniel Franzese said his contract was finalised by 18 February, but plans were scrapped on Tuesday (16 March), just one day after the Vatican released its new rules surrounding same-sex couples.

The comedian read out a letter from the director of student activities at the university, which said: “I am incredibly disappointed and sincerely apologise for this.”

The letter acknowledged that the cancellation was “unprofessional” and was “clearly based on personal beliefs of the higher administration”.

Mean Girls star Daniel Franzese said Vatican’s words are being ‘weaponised’

“I am a gay man. I’m single. The Vatican’s statement about blessing unions should have absolutely not have factored into the decision for them to follow through on a booking that they initiated,” Daniel Franzese said.

“Instead these words are being weaponised against me as they will no doubt countless others. I could understand if maybe they don’t want to see my comedy show, which is PG-13 by the way, and I performed at over 50 colleges and universities all around the nation, including Christian and Catholic universities.

“But I was hired to emcee a show with a script that they wrote for a male beauty pageant. And despite the fact that I was doing this for practically half my rate because they are a private university in the midst of a pandemic, I was fired.”

Franzese continued: “I realise that I’m privileged and I have this audience of followers that I can share this experience with, but what I started thinking about was, what if this was a teacher, or a student, or a doctor, or a patient, or the cook at the Walsh commissary, or somebody enjoying food in a restaurant. When does it end?”

The comedian promised to perform at the nearest gay bar to Walsh University when the pandemic allows him to do so to raise funds for the Trevor Project. Students of the university will be allowed to attend for free.

He added: “If you don’t want to bake my cake, I don’t want to hand you my crown. So to the LGBTQ students at Walsh, cause I know you’re there, I am so sorry that I can’t be there with you. I imagine that you’re feeling frustrated and isolated right now, but you must know that God knows everything about you and he loves you just as you are, and no Vatican statement can change that, no university action can change that.

“Nothing can separate us from the love of God and Jesus Christ, and as a Christ-loving Christian and host of my own faith-based podcast Yass, Jesus, I am appalled that somebody could be fired for who they love using God as their reasoning, and as a gay man I wish them luck on their super straight beauty pageant.”

Ferris State professor fired over racist, homophobic tweets

Ferris State University professor Thomas Brennan was fired after tweeting about “fags” and dismissing COVID-19 as a “hoax”.

Brennan, a former assistant physical science professor at the Ferris State University in Michigan, was previously placed on leave in November last year for a slew of homophobic, racist and antisemitic social media posts.

He often tweeted about the “Jewish mafia”, called the coronavirus pandemic a “Jewish revolution” and used the N-word in reference to Black physicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, according to an exposé by the university’s newspaper The Torch.

As much as Brennan sought to shrug off the article as a “hit piece” at a time, he confirmed on Twitter Saturday (27 February) that he has now been dismissed from the university.

The school confirmed to The Detroit News that it had terminated his contract Thursday (25 February).

“Ferris State University Assistant Professor of Physical Sciences Thomas Brennan’s employment at the university has been terminated, effective Thursday, 25 February 2021,” a spokesperson said.

“The university has no further comment.”

Ferris State professor Thomas Brennan blames homophobic tweets on ‘electromagnetic fields’

In a lengthy, six-page statement on his personal website, Brennan said he tweeted what he did because of, among other things, electromagnetic fields.

“My defence is that I was acting out and speaking out of despair caused by a personal crisis involving extremely painful migraines, EMF sensitivity and a series of repeated break-ins into my home,” he wrote.

“I am one of thousands of Americans from all walks of life who claim to be victims of a secret programme that harasses people, breaks into their homes, and uses [electromagnetic frequency] along with bio, neuro, or nano-technologies to poison and torture their targets,” the statement continued.

“Rather than kill the target, the goal is to get the target to have a breakdown that discredits them and causes them to lose their livelihood.”

He went on to detail various points of contention between himself and faculty leaders, such as refusing to wear a mask on the grounds that a mandate would be “immoral” and claiming that the severity of the coronavirus has been “exaggerated by revolutionary leftists in the media and government”.

He also admitted to the “red zingers” he posted to his Twitter and described his account on the platform as a “little hole to shout in and purge my despair”.

“As I said, it was despair that led me to do this, and I knew I might get in trouble but I needed to cry out,” he said.

“Since I had no way to speak about my disability at work,” Brennan added, “I was exercising my free speech rights on Twitter as a result of my disability.

“Therefore the things I said on Twitter were not expressed in order to discriminate against people of different races or social categories but were uttered as a result of my disability. This is one of many reasons why freedom of speech exists.”

Fired Mandalorian star Gina Carano teams up Ben Shapiro for film project

Gina Carano, who played combative shock trooper Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, is attempting to bounce back by… working with right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro.

Carano, a 38-year-old actor and mixed martial artist, fuelled months-long fan backlash with her incendiary social media presence throughout her stint on the Disney+ show.

One included putting “boop/bop/beep” as her Twitter pronouns – an act that users felt belittered trans rights, which she sought to deny.

But for Lucasfilm, the production company behind the Star Wars show, the flashpoint came during a rant where Carano appeared to compare being a Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust. She was later fired and ditched by her agency as a result.

On Friday (12 February), Carano told Deadline that after being ousted from the series she is now set to collaborate with the conservative website The Daily Wire in an open challenge against what Shapiro called the “Hollywood left”.

Gina Carano: ‘The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams come true’

The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true,” Carano said in a statement to the outlet.

“I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob.

“I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

The film will be released exclusively on The Daily Wire as part of its collaboration with Bone Tomahawk producer Dallas Sonnier.

Shapiro, who once threw a tantrum over Harry Styles wearing a dress, said: “We could not be more excited to be working with Gina Carano, an incredible talent dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm for offending the authoritarian Hollywood Left.”

Carano was turfed by Lucasfilm after uploading a now-deleted post shared to her Instagram Story which read: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours…even by children.

“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.

“How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

A representative of Lucasfilm announcing her termination said: “Her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Fired Ivanka reportedly considering multiple reality TV offers because of course she is / Queerty

Fired Ivanka reportedly considering multiple reality TV offers because of

Well, that didn’t take long.

Less than 48 hours after Donald Trump was declared the loser in the 2020 presidential election, his daughter Ivanka is already cutting her losses and plotting her next career pivot.

For the past four years, Ivanka has served as senior advisor to her father, during which she has made a fool of herself in front of international leaders and racked up no shortage of ethics complaints.

But now that she’s about to be out of a job, she’s said to be weighing several reality TV offers.

“Reality TV made this family superstars,” a top TV insider tells OK! magazine. “It was appearing on The Celebrity Apprentice next to their father, Donald Trump, that made Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric into primetime stars.”

“Ivanka is the family member that is getting the most offers, including interest from Dancing With the Stars. The real question isn’t if the show wants her, it is if Ivanka will want to hit the ballroom floor now that she is one of the most famous daughters in the world.”

Another source claims, “Ivanka is getting more offers than she has ever received in her life. She could have her own primetime cable show if she wanted it.”

But the source says the fist daughter “isn’t interested” in doing Dancing With The Stars. She’s way classier than that!

“She isn’t opposed to going back to reality shows. After all, her dad became the President after his reality show. But the shows she is looking to create are much more similar to The Celebrity Apprentice and Shark Tank than Dancing With the Stars.

“She knows that what she does right now will determine her future for years to come.”

Twitter has a lot to say about Ivanka’s impending reality TV/DWTS pivot…
