One of the most luxurious ski towns in the United States, Aspen draws a loyal crowd that’s eager to have a good time. Most LGBT travelers also have this unique Colorado destination on their radars for the yearly Aspen Gay Ski Week events.
Aspen isn’t just a winter destination. Tourists visit all year round! While more people come once it’s cold enough for snow, many travelers enjoy the mountainous terrain all year. Seeing the yellow Aspen trees in Autumn is priceless.
Similar to nearby Vail, Aspen has a largely transient community, which means the number of gay travelers there can fluctuate. You’ll of course find yourself amongst a sea of other gay guys during Aspen Gay Ski Week, as well as a decent bunch over the winter season.
LGBT Aspen: Hotels & Vacation Rentals
When people think of staying in Aspen, luxury typically comes to mind. There are so many options for luxury resorts and vacation rentals. I’ll fill you in on which hotels are perfect for you, whether you like to be in the center of it all or prefer a secluded mountain chalet.
Last Christmas, Muñoz felt that he “needed a break” from his volunteer elf duties – until he saw Will’s letter.
He told The Advocate: “I was heartbroken point-blank. Every year I read dozens of letters from children; some ask for toys, but most ask for clothes or presents for their moms as they can’t afford anything.
“What made this different and really difficult for me to read was that he didn’t ask for anything physical.
“All he wanted was to know that he was loved and accepted. So how could I not answer his letter, being a queer Latino male who growing up had those same feelings?
“Within minutes I had texted a dozen or so of my family, chosen and blood, and we were off to the races to make it the biggest, gayest, love-filled Christmas he hopefully will remember forever!”
Muñoz quickly “mobilised” his network of queer friends and family to send the young boy a collection of LGBT-inclusive children’s books and a rainbow Santa hat.
Although he didn’t hear back from Will, Muñoz said over the last year he has often “meditated and prayed that he is safe, healthy, well, and most importantly, surrounded by love”.
In a message to LGBT+ children who may be having a difficult time during the festive season, the queer elf added: “Love and joy come in many forms, and sometimes it finds you and other times you have to find it for yourself.
“There, unfortunately, will always be a bully or someone with something negative to say, but if you love yourself, give love, and spread love they can’t affect you.
“Remember, Rudolph was different, bullied, and dare I say, unloved. But in the end, it was his differences that made him beautiful and a hero. Your differences are what make you unique and beautiful and no one can take that away from you.”
Welcome to Screen Gems, our weekend dive into queer and queer-adjacent titles of the past that deserve a watch or a rewatch.
The Christmas Surprise: Make the Yuletide Gay
Give mad props to Rob Williams, the writer-director who, long before the current flurry of queer-themed holiday films, began to infuse the Christmas season with a hearty dose of gayness. Last week we recommended his ode to Christmas love, Shared Rooms. This week we offer up his earlier holiday outing, Make the Yuletide Gay.
The film follows Olaf (Keith Jordan), a college boy out and proud at school, but still in the closet at home. As Olaf tries to survive the holidays with his kooky family, his pining boyfriend Nathan (Adamo Ruggerio) decides to crash the party. Hijinks ensue, of course, as Olaf tries to keep their relationship a secret amid nosy friends, prying relatives and the general holiday hoopla.
A fine supporting cast helps buoy Make the Yuletide Gay, with actors Alison Arngrim (of Little House on the Prarie), Ian Buchanan (Twin Peaks) and Gates McFadden (Star Trek: The Next Generation) all showing up game for the show. Jordan and Ruggerio also have a natural everyman quality to them, that make them relatable in the leads. Far from groundbreaking, but very sincere, Make the Yuletide Gay is a warm & fuzzy way to celebrate the magic of the holiday season, and remember that all of us deserve a fairytale holiday romance.

This profile is part of Queerty’s 2020 Out For Good series, recognizing public figures who’ve had the courage to come out and make a difference in the past year, in celebration of National Coming Out Day on October 11.
Name: Thomas Beattie, 34
Bio: A native of East Yorkshire, England, Beattie trained with the Hull City youth academy before playing professional football across three continents — playing for London City FC, Ottawa Fury FC, and Singapore’s Warriors FC, among other teams.
An injury took Beattie out of the game in 2015, but he has since found a second calling as an entrepreneur and a founder of Ovvy, Roquepress, Hygiene Hub, and Guide Visuals.
Coming Out: Beattie came out as gay on Instagram and in an ESPN interview in June. “It’s time to share something very personal to me,” he wrote in his Instagram post. “It’s easier to sit in silence, but the real challenge is to speak up, and for me, it’s time live my truth and hopefully affect change in some way. I am a brother, son, friend and I’m gay. It took me a long time to accept who I am, and I hope it is a little easier for the next generation. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this process and the journey to come, I appreciate you.”
Finding His Flock: In a follow-up interview with Advocate, Beattie said he wanted to pave the way for gay athletes and gay sports fans. “Mentally there are often many challenges associated with self acceptance and it can be a huge weight to carry,” he said. “I hope to represent the LGBTQ+ community to the best of my ability, and I think the more people involved in sport who are from that community, the more gay sports fans will resonate and feel connected. Being gay can often leave you feeling lonely and singled out, but hopefully as more players come out, there will be more representation at the professional level of sport.”
Words of Wisdom:
“To anyone struggling with identity reading this story, I want you to realize that the one specific moment you can learn to embrace and truly understand who you are, that’s the moment you become powerful. I ask that you be kind to yourself because the thoughts you speak to yourself become words and words become actions. Once I learned that, I became the best possible version of Thomas Beattie. I hope my story can resonate with you so you know that you are not alone, and one day in time you will live in a world where these two environments can co-exist. I hope we eventually get to a space where you don’t have to sacrifice who you are to become an athlete.” – Thomas Beattie, as told to ESPN
The time for Prom is approaching faster than actual Prom does your senior year of high school and we know this because the full trailer is finally here!
I’ve been feeling so conflicted about this because the Broadway show was SO so great and my feelings were a little hurt when Caitlin Kinnunen and Isabelle McCalla weren’t tapped to reprise their roles in the film version of their musical, and frankly I didn’t know if I could trust Ryan Murphy to not shift the focus to the adult characters instead of the teen lesbians, but I adore Ariana DeBose, and Jo Ellen Pellmen sparkles in this preview, and honestly if the balance in the movie is similar to the balance in the trailer, I think this is going to be a great movie. A glittery, glamorous, gay time full of fun and feelings. Plus with stars like Kerry Washington, Nicole Kidman, and Meryl Streep…it can’t be anything less than dazzling right?
I won’t lie, I went into this trailer with low expectations, but by the time Keegan-Michael Key said, “Okay, I admit, that got to me” I was feeling the exact same way. I got fully swept up in it and finally, finally allowed myself to get genuinely excited about this movie.
Just a TV-loving, Twitter-addicted nerd who loves reading, watching, and writing about stories. One part Kara Danvers, two parts Waverly Earp, a dash of Cosima and an extra helping of my own brand of weirdo.
Are we having a fabulous time in Indonesia? Gili-Ty as charged!
…we’d even go as far as saying the Gili Islands is one of our topest-bestest-most-favouritest beach destinations in all of Southeast Asia. In all seriousness, it’s a place we always recommend when we’re often asked – “Guys, can you recommend me an inexpensive beach getaway in Asia?”
Why? ‘Cause these 3 small islands combine white sandy beaches, flat clear water, terrific diving sites and plenty of activities (have you ever tried Subwing?). There’s also plenty of partying for when you want it or complete remote island solitude when you just want to be completely cut off from the world. And then there are those phenomenal magical sunsets, every evening!
In summary, the Gili Islands impressed us a lot. They’re nicknamed “the Maldives of Southeast Asia” for good reason. We’ve put together this detailed gay guide of the Gilis based on our firsthand experience travelling here as a gay couple, which we hope inspires and helps you have a fun and safe trip.
What and where are the gay Gili Islands exactly?
The Gili Islands are made up of 3 small islands that lie off the northwest coast of Lombok island.
Gili Trawangan is the largest and craziest of the three with a population of around 1,500 people. This is where you’ll find the parties, most of the hotels, best restaurants – essentially it’s the main “hub” of the three islands. Party gay boys will want to base themselves right here.
Actor Wentworth Miller has spoken further about the importance of gay representation on screen. Two weeks ago, Miller – who came out as gay in 2013 – took to Instagram to inform fans that he had no plans to return for a mooted sixth season of Prison Break, saying he only wished to play gay characters from now on.
Yesterday, Miller posted an Instagram video of himself kissing the actor Russell Tovey. The two men played love interests Leo Snart/Captain Cold and Ray Tyrrell on the DC show, The Flash, in 2017.
In the accompanying caption, Miller spoke about the power of having two gay actors to play gay superheroes and kiss on screen. He also went on to highlight one of the benefits of casting a gay actor.

“Leo. The powers-that-be willed him into existence and I was grateful. He didn’t have to be gay but the writers wrote that shit. So we got 2 gay actors playing 2 gay superheroes kissing onscreen… Felt like a moment.
He went on to say that when he read the script, he felt it needed tweaking.
“Where Leo tells Mick and Sara he’s marrying Ray, his original line was like, ‘I just want something normal…’ Gays. Just like us. Except me? I’m not getting married. I didn’t want Leo framing marriage as ‘normal’ for folks (kids) watching. It’s not. It’s homonormative. A ton of queer folks are living full/content lives outside the marriage construct. That line became, ‘I’m looking for a new kind of adventure’ (or some such).”
Miller went on to ask, “Would a straight actor playing Leo push for that change? Have that conversation with the (straight) writers and (straight) director? Maybe. I did bec I had to. It reflects my lived experience. I’m having those conversations 24-7. Not just on set.
“I should note I had the weight – and will – to push for rewrites. Not every actor does. #privilege.”
He says he also questioned another part of the script.
“Last tweak: The sc where Leo and Ray argue while Ray changes. The first draft called for me to ‘blush and turn away’ at the sight of a shirtless Ray. Hello. They’re lovers. Pretty sure it was the person who wrote that sc who wanted to blush and turn away.”
A day earlier, Miller also returned to the issue of him not rejoining Prison Break. Since his first announcement a couple of weeks ago, some fans have speculated that the show’s creators might tempt him back by making his character, Michael Schofield, gay.

Miller appeared to pour cold water on this idea. He also dismissed further speculation that Scofield might enter into any sort of relationship with the character T-Bag, who is shown having sex with men in prison but is also a racist, pedophile, murderer, and rapist. Millers suggests T-Bag should not be considered gay representation.
“Forgive me,” said Miller on Instagram. “I need to put my finger on something. In and around the ‘reveal’ I’m gay IRL, don’t wish to play straight parts etc., I saw dozens of comments suggesting Michael leave Sara for T-bag. Or that T-bag will be ‘looking’ for Michael/me.
“Is it possible, to some folks, T-Bag = “gay” rep on PB? Maybe the ONLY rep on TV in their part of the world? Forget the homophobes + zealots (bec fuck them) – for the queer kids, the queer adults who will never come out bec coming out = death in their part of the world… is T-bag the best they can expect?”
He went on to say that Hollywood sends out messages to viewers, whether intentional or not, which is why he believes so strongly about bringing authentic LGBTQ representation to the screen.
“Stories matter. Balanced, responsible storytelling matters. You never know who’s watching. Or where.”
