Lil Nas X has defiant message after topping US charts with Montero

Lil Nas X proved that blasphemy really does pay after riding his bottoming banger “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” into hell and straight to number one in the charts.

The song about gay sex reached its rightful spot at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts on Monday (5 April), less than two weeks after its debut.

In its first week alone it drew 46.9 million US streams and sold 21,000 downloads, according to MRC Data, and attracted 1.1 million radio airplay audience impressions in the week ending 4 April.

It’s his second US number one after his megahit “Old Town Road” led for a record 19 weeks in 2019 – and to say the star is celebrating would be an understatement.

“CALL ME BY YOUR NAME NUMBER 1 SONG IN THE WORLD AHHHHHH,” Lil Nas X tweeted ecstatically after the news broke. “LET’S GO GAY AGENDA!!!!”

“I hope my haters are sad. I hope they are crying. I want your tears to fill my Grammy cup,” he continued as he kept the celebration going in a string of tweets.

“Y’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again.

“You told him to stop while he’s ahead. He could’ve gave up. But four multi platinum songs and two number ones later, he’s still here. Thank you to my team and my fans! ily.”

Even more adorably, the star released a motivational video he filmed in June 2020 to congratulate his future self.

“Hello, Lil Nas X in the future,” he told himself. “I wanna say I’m proud of you. I’m proud of you n***a! Yeah! Congratulations, you deserve all the good s**t that’s happening to you right now.

“You pushed through, ‘cuz [breaks into unintelligible excitable noises]. It’s been a lot of s**t.”

You can’t even be mad at Lil Nas X for semi “outing” him. Tekashi has indulged rape culture in his lyrics and is known to hit on underage girls. While it’s just dumb as hell to try and throw homophobic shade at someone when you were in their DM’s, coming off thirsty. So dumb.

Some of these DL and closeted guys are a mess. Some of these dudes who contend with fluidity, paraphiliacs, dimensions or contractions as far as the gender, romantic, sexual, affection, emotional investment, commitment spectrum- they really do fit the stereotypes and are problematic and insecure as hell. All you had to do was keep quiet, but you just couldn’t help throwing a gay joke his way (probably because he had no interests in meeting up with u). This type of shit is partly why my fascination with “straight”, DL or closeted guys died down quickly when I hit 30.

Lil Nas X has written the ‘best kids’ book of all time’

Lil Nas X has written a children’s book in which he and Panini the pony embark “on a joyous journey through the alphabet”.

The “Old Town Road” singer, who came out as gay in July 2019, announced on Twitter: “I’m dropping the best kids book of all time soon! C IS FOR COUNTRY, out 5 January, 2021 from Random House Kids.

“I can’t wait to share it with you all.”

According to Random House, kids aged three to seven years old will be able to “join superstar Lil Nas X… and Panini the pony on a joyous journey through the alphabet from sunup to sundown”.

The blurb continues: “Experience wide-open pastures, farm animals, guitar music, cowboy hats, and all things country in this debut picture book that’s perfect for music lovers learning their ABCs and for anyone who loves Nas’s signature genre-blending style.”

C is for Country, illustrated by Theodore Taylor III, is “a celebration of song and the power inside us all” and will also feature “plenty of hidden surprises” for adult fans of the Grammy award-winning artist.

Although some Lil Nas X fans on Twitter were disappointed that he was announcing a picture book rather than his new album, which he insists is “98 per cent done”, others were convinced that C is for Country would be a “masterpiece”.

One Twitter user wrote: “I don’t have any kids or intend to for like 20 years so I will be reading this to my dogs.”

“I haven’t touched a book in years but I’ll do it for you king,” said another.

The LGBT+ community has been disappointed by certain children’s authors recently, so one Lil Nas X fan came up with an ingenious idea. They wrote: “[I’m] telling my kids this is who wrote Harry Potter.”

Lil Nas X recently launched a spring clothing collection with designer Christian Cowan, the mastermind behind Lil Nas X’s 2019 VMAs outfit.

In a joint interview about the collection for Vogue, the pair revealed that 100 per cent of proceeds will be donated to the Black trans community in Atlanta, Georgia, where Lil Nas X is from.
